Omega Divers: Snorkeling and Scuba Diving in Crete
Omega Divers
Coming up: sea urchins, safety, beaches and boats, take-home photos, a friendly bunch of experienced divers, one of the most famous caves in Greece, and snorkeling and scuba diving in Crete.
Question: what comes with 14 years of experience, has hosted over 40,000 guests, and hands out 100s of diving certificates per year?
No—it’s not the beginning of a bad joke…
… it’s our fun-loving friends at Crete’s Omega Divers.
One of the most experienced and innovative diving centers in Greece, they offer tours and adventures for everyone—newbies, experienced divers, families with kids, groups of friends, and anyone keen to try scuba diving and snorkeling in Crete.
Where can I find Omega Divers?
They’re based close to Crete’s city of Chania (which sits on the island’s northwest coast).
This location is pretty convenient—this part of the island is where you’ll find Greece’s most famous diving cave. Visited by both the History Channel and the Discovery Channel, Crete’s mysterious ‘Elephant Cave’ is home to the fossilized remains of a prehistoric elephant species.
Accessible only by boat, the cave lies 10 meters beneath the surface of the sea… and divers come from different parts of Greece (and the world!) just to see this Cretan cave.
But with Omega Divers, you can expect way more than just the Elephant Cave—you’ll also find bays, beaches, boat trips, local creatures, more caves and caverns, an Irish shipwreck, and plenty more underwater adventures. And the Omega Divers team are experts in it all!
What can I do with Omega Divers?
They offer dives to 10 different sites, along with dive training, courses, certification-giving, and plenty more water-based adventure and excitement.
But like most people reading this, you’re probably a regular tourist, and not a certified diver.
… and for regular folks, Omega Divers’ two most popular experiences (and the two experiences you can book on this page!) are:
During this immersive three-hour course, total beginners learn the fundamentals of scuba diving… then head out for a basic-but-exciting 45-minute dive.
With a ratio of 1 instructor to every 2 guests (and 1 instructor per each child!), it’s a super-safe way to dive into the basics.
Expect clear waters, a blue bay, a whole load of scenic sights, a maximum dive depth of 8 meters, and to feel surprisingly confident for a person who’s never dived before. In short, it’s the perfect introduction to scuba diving in Crete.
2. Boat trip with guided snorkeling and stand-up paddleboarding
During this fun-filled adventure, you head out on a coastal boat trip, visiting 10+ seaside sites. You’ll go snorkeling and paddleboarding, and hop in an electric sea scooter.
Expect fish*, reefs, islands, caves, clear waters, photos and videos from underwater cameras (which you get for free after the trip is over!), and places only accessible by boat.
You don’t need any level of experience, and you don’t need any specific type of fitness—so it’s family-friendly, and it’s suitable for people aged 0 to 100 (oh, and for those who need a bit of extra confidence, flotation devices are included on board).
*quick disclaimer: when we say ‘fish,’ don’t expect any tropical species, or hefty sharks and whales. Instead, you’ll see unique local Mediterranean sea life: cuttlefish, lobsters, grouper, bream, sea urchins, and octopus—the Omega Divers team have been sharing seas with these animals for years, so they’ll teach you about the creatures and critters you see.
For experienced divers, the Omega team offer many more adventures, including visits to islands, a trip to a lighthouse wall, and (as mentioned) an expedition to Crete’s famous Elephant Cave.
Who are Omega Divers?
With a story stretching more than 20 years, they’re one of the top diving centers in Crete.
But here’s the thing: Omega Divers aren’t just a tour agency.
Instead, they’re also an instructor-development center. They’re an academy. They create certified instructors.
… so they serve up plenty of perks:
- All staff are 5-star accredited by PADI, the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (‘the most recognized dive training organization worldwide’).
- During all experiences and adventures, group sizes are small—so you get more fun, more safety, and more bespoke choices for what you do and don’t want to do.
- They own and maintain all their own boats and equipment (and don’t hire or borrow their craft or kit, like many other companies do).
- Because they only offer dives in and around Chania, they’re absolute experts in the region. They know when and how to explore the area, they know where all the fun is found, and they know exactly how to keep you safe.
- It’s all professional and polished: before each experience, you’ll be briefed on what to expect, how to use equipment, and what to look out for.
- They speak many languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, and Russian (and of course Greek, but that was probably pretty obvious!).
- … and if you’re staying in or around Chania, they’ll usually pick you up from your hotel for free!
What’s the atmosphere when I go scuba diving or snorkeling in Crete with Omega Divers?
All experiences are relaxed and fun.
Yep, the Omega Divers team are super serious about safety, but they also know you’re on vacation… so it’s a relaxed and fun day, where you’ll be supervised but not stifled.
They’re funny, they’re laid-back, and they’re absolute experts in what they do.
